Important Information for Families: Preparing for Assessments

Testing

Dear Discovery Families,

As we approach the upcoming assessment season (i.e. i-Ready, WIDA, Highly Capable, and Smarter Balance), we want to ensure that all students are well-prepared and able to perform their best. State and district assessments are an important part of your child’s academic journey and provide valuable insights into their progress. To help your child succeed, we kindly ask for your support in the following ways:

1. Avoid Scheduling Appointments or Vacations

Please make every effort to avoid scheduling non-emergency appointments, vacations, or other commitments during the assessment window. Consistent attendance is crucial for your child’s performance, as missing even one day of testing can affect their overall progress. We understand that emergencies arise, but whenever possible, please try to schedule medical appointments or family trips outside of this period.

2. Ensure Your Child is Well-Rested

A good night’s sleep is essential for concentration and focus. We encourage families to help their children establish a consistent bedtime routine, especially during testing weeks.

3. Provide a Nutritious Breakfast

A healthy breakfast can boost your child’s energy and concentration during the tests. Please provide a well-balanced meal each morning before school to help them start the day strong.

4. Encourage a Positive Attitude

Your encouragement can make a big difference! Remind your child that doing their best is what matters most. A calm and confident mindset will help them approach the tests with a positive attitude.

Assessment Dates:

The state and school assessments will take place during the following dates:

We appreciate your support in ensuring your child is present and prepared during this important time. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Dawn Fields, fieldsd@issaquah.wednet.edu, 425-837-4100.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping your child succeed!
