COVID Update - May 12, 2022

COVID-19 update

Hello Discovery Families,

As we have learned over the past few years, challenges come and go, providing us opportunities to practice flexibility and patience. We are currently experiencing one of those times.

Throughout this last week/weekend we were made aware of increasing positive cases of Covid-19 at Discovery. If one of these cases was in your child’s classroom then you received a notification email from me. If a number of these cases were in one classroom, this is considered a cluster of cases. In addition to our typical Covid mitigation strategies, we also reached out to the Department of Health in order to reduce the risk for all of our students while being able to continue our in-person instruction.

Throughout the entire school we continue to:

  • Maximize social distancing
  • Clean and disinfect daily
  • Check to ensure the HVAC system is working properly
  • Masks are optional, but always recommended to reduce risk.

When/if there is a cluster of cases in one classroom, Public Health - Seattle & King County recommends these additional mitigation strategies for all students in that class:

  • Masking as part of the mitigation protocol, per Public Health - Seattle & King County guidance. Students in the class will mask until further notice. Masks can be from home or will be provided.
  • Distancing will be maximized in the classroom and common areas.
  • If your child exhibits any symptoms, even if only one, please keep them at home and test prior to returning when symptoms improve.
  • Students should be tested who are asymptomatic similar to series testing as offered through our Test to Stay protocol. Home tests are now also accepted. Students who have tested positive for Covid-19 within the past 20 days do not need to test.
  • The Health Department recommends testing in a series beginning with initial exposure, and once again between days 3-5 of a known exposure. If you test at home, please email me the results at keegank@issaquah.wednet.edu. If you would like to arrange for your child to be tested on site at Discovery, please also email and we can make an appointment to do so (a parent will need to administer the test).
  • If you prefer for your student to isolate at home for 5 days instead of a test, please notify the attendance office (diattendance@issaquah.wednet.edu) and those absences will be excused.

Thank you for helping us reduce the spread of the Covid-19. If you have any questions, please contact me at 425 837-4027 or the Discovery office at 425-837-4100.

Kind regards,
