Counselor Corner - February 5th

Health and Wellness

Dear Families,

I often think about how tricky it is to navigate healthy screen usage and making sure that you all have enough support in this area! Recently I came upon this article with some excellent tips for managing the emotional breakdowns that can happen over screens.  I hope you might find it helpful!

It is great to prioritize outside time (as the weather gets nicer!) and being active. Our students have a long day of learning, so it becomes really important for them to have time to actively play and get exercise after school!

Do you need some games that are fun for the whole family?

Playing games at dinner or on a rainy day teaches conversational skills, step-by-step directions and sportsmanship!

At first it can be hard for a child to lose. Talking about the winning and losing BEFORE you start the game can help.

Here are some popular board games and conversation games:

 -UNO (so many new versions!)

- Connect Four

-Cooperative Games (Outfoxed is just one example)

-Guess Who

-Spot It

-Story Cubes

-Two Truths and a Lie or Would you Rather

-Dinner Chat cards

-Puzzles

Buying games at a local store or toy store instead of online is another way to engage your kids.

It can be a special family outing and also helps to teach about prices and making choices together.
