Happy Almost Winter Break!
As the days are dark and the kids are getting bored, winter break can be tricky. It really helps their teachers if kids don’t use screens a lot during winter break since it is very hard to switch back to their ‘school brains’. We know that some screens happen, and with screen limits that is a good way of teaching kids to be ‘balanced’.
But if you are looking for ideas that are not screens, read below!
- Head to the Sammamish Library! They have a fireplace and so many books. Cuddle up on a chair with your kids and read together or listen to an audio book. Then, take some home to enjoy. Challenge yourselves to visit other KCLS libraries too!
- Have your kids help to plan a fun meal! Try out a ‘picnic style’ in the living room. Explore recipes from another culture.
- Bundle up and go out for a walk or winter hike! Our kids are from the PNW and go out every day at school, in any weather, twice a day for recess! They can bundle up and go outside on winter break too! 😊
- Go on a nature exploration to find cool nature items and bring home some pinecones to make a snack for the birds.
Busy working?
- Set them up with audio books or writing letters or drawing pictures for a relative.
- Don’t forget about those chore charts! Chores teaches kids that they are part of a family!
- Set up a show that you know is good for kids or try Storytime Online.(Instead of YouTube).
- Have a schedule for the day, just like they have at school!
- Encourage your kids to play imagination: make up a play, pretend school and more
