Discovery
Dear Discovery Families,
This Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to share how grateful I am for our Discovery Elementary community.
The recent storm has been hard on many of us, and I know some families are still recovering. Even during tough times, I am amazed by the kindness, strength, and care I see in our students, families, and staff every day.
Microsoft Employees
If you are volunteering at Discovery, this qualifies for Discovery Elementary to receive funds for this time. If you go on a fieldtrip, work in a classroom/library or even come in to pop popcorn once a month, please log in these hours on Microsoft/Benevity Portal. Please choose Discovery Elementary Sammamish and log in your hours. Please be aware that there is an account for Discovery PTSA and other Discovery Elementaries so please make sure you choose our school.
Hello Discovery families!
Starting on Monday, we will be learning through our social/emotional curriculum, PurposeFull People, about the character trait of Gratitude.
Our students will be doing different activities for the next four weeks with their teachers and in the lunchroom.
In the link below is a newsletter that gives your family activities to understand and practice qualities of what Gratitude means. Enjoy!

Highly capable testing for all second-grade students will occur in March. Students who are identified as “most highly capable” will be invited to enter either the SAGE or MERLIN program in the 25-26 school year. If you do not want your student to participate in testing, please complete the Opt-Out Form available on Highly Capable Program webpage.
The Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank has opened online registration for their 2024 Holiday Gifts program. Information is available now for anyone who would like to donate or to access services. In-person registration is also available. The deadline to register is November 15.
District
All schools will be open tomorrow (Tuesday), November 26, and will begin at their regular start times. At this point, all of our school sites have power. The Holly Street Early Learning Center is the one exception and will remain closed tomorrow. Other updates and details enclosed.
This is a friendly reminder that there is no school for students or staff Wed., Nov. 27 through Friday, Nov. 29 for the Thanksgiving holiday break. School will resume on Monday, Dec. 2.
We hope our families, staff and community are able to enjoy the long weekend given the difficulties the storm has brought us this past week.
Members of the School Board want to hear from you about the 2024 School Modernization and Construction Bond and what’s next. The bond measure received just over 50% approval but fell short of the 60% supermajority needed to pass. The School Board has scheduled two listening sessions, and the district is launching a ThoughtExchange to gather input from students, staff, families, and community members.
We are reaching out with a midday update to ensure that you have the latest information in a timely manner. We are working today toward the goal of opening most of our schools tomorrow, Tuesday, November 25. Holly Street Early Learning Center will remain closed Tuesday due to storm damage. Progress updates enclosed; we will update you again by 5 p.m. today.
Of the 900 people who have participated in a ThoughtExchange about the 2024 School Modernization and Construction Bond measure so far, 75% of those participants are students. The ThoughtExhange is one of several ways that the School Board and district leaders are asking for community feedback about the bond, including two listening sessions; and a follow-up meeting of the Bond Advisory Committee.
